Process

This work was exhibited in September 2025 as part of the MA Drawing small-scale exhibition. The paper-based element originated from a piece I created in March of the same year. After the Summer Show, I became increasingly focused on installation methods and the viewer’s psychological experience during the act of looking. We experimented with several display approaches, yet the initial attempts seemed unsatisfactory — the pure white wall appeared unable to provide an appropriate spatial context for these small-scale drawings.

Later, we unexpectedly discovered that placing the works on the windows created a surprisingly effective result. They were not immediately noticeable — only when viewers paid close attention would they become aware of them. I particularly appreciated one detail: these two drawings were originally torn from my sketchbook, and there were other images on the reverse sides of the paper. Because the gallery windows were made of double-layered glass, viewers could see the faint reflection of the drawings when looking closely. What appeared in the reflection were the images on the backs of the papers. The lines became blurred and shifting between the layers of glass, producing a subtle sense of visual overlap.

If viewed from the opposite side of the window, what appeared was entirely the back of the works — as if the act of looking itself had been reversed, and the space quietly redefined.
